The 2nd Annual Dancing With Our Stars for the Ohio River Valley Chapter American Red Cross surpassed all expectations. Together with the amazing efforts of our star and professional dancers, sponsors, volunteers and the entire community, more than $112,000 was raised to support Red Cross programs and services in our community. Final results should be available by the end of the week. After more than five months of learning dance skills and raising money for the local chapter, the ten dance teams took the stage on Saturday, April 5 at the Southern Ohio Medical Center’s Friend’s Community Center in Portsmouth.

Our dancers all looked their best thanks to Trina Bender and her staff of hair stylists and make-up artists from Studio 32 and Jaquelyn Shively of Beautifully Bronze Mobile Custom Airbrush Tanning. Melanie Manchester and her stage and lighting crew made sure everything ran smoothly throughout the evening as did Zoe Richards who steered our volunteers at the event. In addition , our official vote tabulators from DESCO Federal Credit Union did an excellent job under the direction of Kara Tieman.
In addition our Judges including Ryan Burke of OSCO Industries, Sonie Hash of Compass Community Health and Dr. Micahel Raies co-owner of Portsmouth Vision Center offered their expert advice and comments for each of the dance teams. Chris Smith of radio station WNXT 99.3FM and Elizabeth Scott were outstanding Master of Ceremonies while Mary Arnzen of SOMC gathered comments from the fans in the audience. We also thank our media partners WNXT 99.3FM radio and The Portsmouth Daily Times for their promotional assistance.
The sold-out crowd numbering more than 490 guests enjoyed a special performance by vocalist Melanie Manchester who was accompanied by Justin Wiget on the piano during the dinner catered by Flavours by SODEXO. The crowd was also wowed with special performances by Cirque d’Art Theater, the 2013 Mirror Ball Trophy winner, Amy Hassel and her partner, Dr. John Turjoman and the return of the 2013 People’s Choice winner, Dr. Nathan Bennington who shared his famous Michael Jackson moves and more!
