t takes a great team of volunteers who give hours of their time and talents to make Dancing With our Stars successful. Although they are mainly behind the scenes for our guests, they're in front for the American Red Cross.
Our committee including Mary Arnzen, Rick Morgan, Sonie Hash, Trina Bender, Terry Horner-Phipps, Jennifer Schackart, Amy Hassle, Elizabeth Scott, Melanie Manchester, Juanita "Skeeter"Smith, Beau Vastine, Zoe Richards and Kara Tieman started in early May 2014 and spent many hours meeting and planning the evening under the direction of Vicky Hatcher, chairman.
Melanie Manchester served as Stage Director for her second term and did an exceptional job keeping the dancers on their toes to be on stage when scheduled, handling props and coordinating with sound, lighting and more. Melanie definitely had her hands full and saw that things all ran smoothly throughout the evening.
Thanks to Jacquelyn Shively, owner of Beautifully Bronze Mobile Tanning, our participants all had a glow about them. Our participants also all had the opportunity for make-up and hair design courtesy of Trina Bender and her staff of designers at Studio 32
Jennifer Schackart, SOMC Friend's Center Manager and decorator extraordinaire and Kim Evens, Friend's Center Coordinator are a delight to work with and we appreciate all of their help with site arrangements and preparation. These ladies also over saw the curtain and technical teams involved.
Our outstanding photography was courtesy of Terry Horner-Phipps, while the dancers introductory videos were filmed and produced by Andrew Dodson of Andrew Dodson Photography and Brandon Shamhart of Top Shelf Photography.
The technical team from OU Southern Electronic Media Club not only filmed the event but tended to all electronic media during the show. Joshua Ruby, owner of Bravo Live DJ provided the music and some special lighting to enhance the stage and ballroom.
Zoe Richards headed up a team of more than 75 volunteers who worked throughout the evening from greeting guests to collecting votes, registration, tending the bars,clean-up and more. Mary Arnzen was our experienced volunteer trainer.
We appreciate Kara Tieman and her team of ladies from DESCO Federal Credit Union who served as our Official Vote Tabulators and completed a very tedious job in record time.
With the assistance of The Scioto Voice, The Portsmouth Daily Times, The Community Common and WNXT 99.3 FM and 1260 AM radio, Dancing With our Stars was widely promoted throughout the community.
"We could not present this show without these wonderful volunteers who support the local American Red Cross." said Debbie Smith, Community Executive Director.
If you missed the show, DVD's will be available for $10.00 each. Simply contact the Red Cross office at 741.354.3293 to place your order.
All proceeds from Dancing With our Stars support disaster prevention, preparation and relief, the life-saving training of first aid, CPR/AED classes, collection and testing of blood and blood products, support to military members serving around the globe, the transportation program and international programs.
